Thursday's Poem: St Catherine of Siena

Thursday, June 27, 2013

I Won't Take No For An Answer
"I won't take no for an answer,"
God began to say
to me

when He opened His arms each night
wanting us to
dance.

-St. Catherine of Siena

Thursday's Poem: William F. Lloyd

Thursday, May 30, 2013

This poem is a great reminder to me to let God be God and leave my entire life in His hands. I pray this sweet poem will be a blessing to you today.

My Times Are In Thy Hand
"My times are in thy hand;
My God I wish them there;
My life, my friends, my soul I leave
'Entirely to thy care.

My times are in thy hand;
Why should I doubt or fear?
 My Father's hand will never cause
His child a needless tear."
-William F. Lloyd

Thursday's Poem: Emily Dickinson

Thursday, May 16, 2013

Emily Dickinson has to be one of my favorite poets by far. Her vivid imagination and descriptive imagery never cease to amaze me. As I was flipping through a collection of her poems this past week I came across one that I had to share after last week's post. I hope you enjoy this poem by Miss Emily Dickinson.

Summer Shower
"A Drop fell on the apple-tree,
Another on the roof;
A half a dozen kissed the eaves,
And made the gables laugh.

A few went out to help the brook,
That went to help the sea.
Myself conjectured, Were they pearls,
What necklaces could be!

The dust replaced in hoisted roads,
The birds jocoser sung;
The sunshine threw his hat away,
The orchards spangles hung.

The breezes brought dejected lutes,
And bathed them in the glee;
The East put out a single flag,
And signed the fete away."

-Emily Dickinson

Glimpses of Another World: A Poem

Wednesday, April 3, 2013

Glimpses of Another World

Bold brushstrokes of diamonds
Across a clementine colored sky;
Cool, clear, crystal water,
A Holy River of Life.
Tall, majestic mountains
Stand proudly to proclaim
God's enduring, eternal love
And His matchless Name.
Faces glow with radiance
As each person turns to gaze
Upon their kind Creator
The Awesome Ancient of Days.

A big thank you to a sweet friend of mine who never fails to send me beautiful pictures of God's amazing sunsets!

All Things New: A Poem

Thursday, March 7, 2013

 All Things New

The depths of a heart
Only God can rightly see,
With its longings, scars, desires—
What a mystery to me!

The pains of the past
And the questions of the present
Drown out that gentle whisper,
So sweet, so calm, so pleasant.

‘Child, are you listening?’
I hear the sweet Lord say.
‘Let go of all your cares and worries,
And trust Me with today.’

‘Behold I go before you,
To lead, to teach, to guide;
There is no need to worry,
I’m right here by your side.’

‘Is there anything too hard for Me?
Is there anything I cannot do?
I AM the Lord your God,
Who makes all things new.’

Thursday's Poem (2)

Thursday, February 21, 2013

The idea of small beginnings has really been impressed upon me lately. So when I came across a poem by Julia A. Fletcher the other day that talked about this very thing, I was really excited! God is so gracious to teach and guide.

Without further ado, here is the sweet poem.
"Little drops of water, little grains of sand,
Make the mighty ocean and the pleasant land.
So the little minutes, humble though they be,
Make the mighty ages of eternity."
Author: Julia A. Fletcher

Then He said, “To what shall we liken the kingdom of God? Or with what parable shall we picture it? It is like a mustard seed which, when it is sown on the ground, is smaller than all the seeds on earth; but when it is sown, it grows up and becomes greater than all herbs, and shoots out large branches, so that the birds of the air may nest under its shade.”
Mark 4:30-32

Thursday's Poem

Thursday, February 7, 2013

 I just love how poems give us the ability to express our hearts! Recently I began reading more poetry by Emily Dickinson and have found her vivid imagination to make for an inspiring read. One little gem in particular really struck a chord with me. I wanted to share this poem with you all. In fact, I'm hoping to post two to three poems a month so you too can get inspired!

So grab a cup of coffee, tea (insert your favorite drink here) and pull up a seat for Thursday's Poem by Emily Dickinson.

Fringed Gentian

"God made a little gentian;
It tried to be a rose
And failed, and all the summer laughed.
But just before the snows
There came a purple creature
That ravished all the hill;
And summer hid her forehead,
And mockery was still.
The frosts were her condition;
The Tyrian would not come
Until the North evoked it.
'Creator! shall I bloom?'"
