5 Great Hymns

Monday, October 14, 2013

There's something about hymns. The lyrics, the melody, the theology packed into one always seem to draw me closer to the Lord. Call me old fashioned, but I love myself a good old hymn. Even some of the more modern day hymns have that timeless feel. When God's story is proclaimed, Christ is exalted and His unfailing love and grace is remembered then a timeless hymn is borne.

Today I wanted to share with you my top 5 favorite hymns. Click the links to listen to the sweet melodies and God's truth being proclaimed.

1. In Christ Alone

2. Great Is Thy Faithfulness

3. Be Thou My Vision

4. Come Thou Found of Every Blessing

5. How Great Thou Art

"So I’ll cherish the old rugged cross,
Till my trophies at last I lay down;
I will cling to the old rugged cross,
And exchange it some day for a crown."
-The Old Rugged Cross

  1. Good Morning Gretchen! What a lovely list of hymns. I remember a blog post I did on the hymn Amazing Grace. It was ranked #2 on a Facebook list of favorite songs.

Music really does lift me out of myself and gets me to focus on God. No wonder King David was so lyrical! His Psalms were so powerful, because they were sung, don't you think?

    Have a great day :)

  2. Hi Ceil! So glad to see you today! Thanks for stopping by!
Yes, I heartily agree. King David's Psalms really are powerful. Packing truth into a beautiful melody has such an amazing effect on one's heart.
I would love to read the blog post you did on Amazing Grace! Did it really rank #2 on FB? I believe it too! We sang that in church yesterday and I think most everyone there knew the lyrics.
Blessings to you Ceil! Thanks so much!
